Västlänken names two new contractors after WLC split

Nearly a year after the bitter split with WLC, the Swedish Transport Administration has finally landed two new contractors for the Korsvägen section of Västlänken.

Two new contractors are set to replace WLC following last year’s bitter contract termination at Korsvägen station, part of the Västlänken rail tunnel project in Gothenburg.

Swiss construction giant Implenia will take over the main contract for Korsvägen station, including the installation of technical systems. The contract is worth just over SEK 3 billion.

At the same time, the Swedish Transport Administration is awarding Züblin the completion of the rail tunnel east of the station area. The work involves a double-track concrete tunnel running beneath the Mölndal River and through the Liseberg amusement park area. That contract is worth SEK 512 million.

The Transport Administration terminated its contract with WLC last year in what became a highly contentious split. The two new awards mark the first time the agency has publicly confirmed who will complete the remaining works.
