The takeover of Northvolt's Skellefteå facility by Lyten has been pushed back from its original year-end target, leaving the production restart timeline uncertain despite regulatory approvals being in place.

The transaction was slated for completion before year-end. But the timeline has slipped, raising questions about when Northvolt’s new owner can restart production.

U.S. battery company Lyten is set to acquire the assets of bankrupt Northvolt. However, the deal has been pushed back. The original expectation was for the takeover to close before the new year, but that deadline was not met.

The transaction remains incomplete, and production at the massive Northvolt battery facility in Skellefteå remains suspended.

“This is a very large and complex transaction,” bankruptcy administrator Mikael Kubu told Svt.

“Parts of the takeover have already occurred, as Lyten has assumed control of personnel and is covering costs,” he added.

The deal has already secured approval from all relevant authorities. The bankruptcy administrator declined to specify the reasons for the delay in finalizing the acquisition.

He did indicate, however, that completion would occur “in the near term.”
