Authorities have identified 32 individuals working illegally at the Stegra steel plant construction project in Boden, nearly doubling the initial count, as investigations continue into labor law violations at the major industrial site.
Authority intervention at the Stegra steel plant construction site in Boden initially resulted in 19 individuals, who did not have the right to stay and work in Sweden, facing deportation.
Now that figure has grown to 32 people who must leave the country, reports P4 Norrbotten.
In total, around a hundred people were inspected at the site, and investigations are still ongoing.
“More inspections must be carried out, of course, and the industry itself must also think carefully. You need to keep track of who is working within your contract. And on your subcontractors,” says Joakim Lundgren, operation commander at the border police, to P4 Norrbotten.
Several reports of violations of the Aliens Act have been filed and several individuals are being held in detention.
