– We greatly appreciate continuing the good collaboration with GC Rieber Eiendom from the construction of the Viken Brygge hotel (Moxy Bergen), which will be the nearest neighbor. The project has very high environmental ambitions, and that’s something we particularly enjoy building. We thank you very much for the assignment, says Thor Småbrekke, district manager at Veidekke Bygg Bergen.
The project, named Fenderen, will have a unique location by the water’s edge in the heart of Solheimsviken in Bergen. The building will be made of massive timber and will have three floors plus a basement, totaling approximately 7,800 m2. It will have an energy mix of solar cells, electricity, district heating, and seawater. The design and choice of materials have been made to ensure sustainability throughout the building’s lifetime, from construction to the possibility of renovation and reuse of building parts upon demolition. The building will be classified according to the BREEAM Outstanding (Paris Proof) standard.
The initiation of building and groundwork is planned for the transition between May and June, with completion in March 2026.
