World’s future tallest building reaches 100-floor milestone

One hundred floors and counting. Saudi Arabia's Jeddah Tower is making rapid progress towards becoming the world's tallest building, with completion expected in August 2028.

Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia has reached its 100th floor, marking a major milestone in the construction of what will become the world’s tallest building, Newsweek reports.

– Jeddah Tower has reached 100 floors and is progressing quickly beyond that. It is a great milestone and one of many to come, says Bob Forest, managing partner at Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the firm behind the design.

When completed, the tower will exceed one kilometre in height, surpassing the current record holder Burj Khalifa in Dubai at 828 metres. Completion is scheduled for August 2028.

The tower is the centrepiece of Jeddah Economic City, a sprawling 5.3 million square metre urban development. Its design is inspired by a folded paper airplane stood on its end.

The cost of the tower itself is estimated at around $2.7 billion, while the broader Jeddah Economic City development is expected to cost $20 billion in total.
