MT Højgaard Danmark has been awarded the general contractor role for the major new psychiatric facility planned in Viborg. The approximately 16,000 square meter building will be constructed at Søndersøparken at a budgeted cost of 454 million kroner.
The new center will house 90 inpatient beds for adult psychiatric patients, with 32 beds for forensic psychiatry and 58 for general psychiatry.
It will also include clinical treatment rooms, day spaces, a sports field, patient school, offices and staff facilities, along with 4,400 square meters of green outdoor areas.
“We are pleased with the strong interest throughout the tender process and the four solid bids received. MT Højgaard Danmark submitted the offer that best met the tender requirements,” said Henrik Gottlieb Hansen, chair of the Regional Council’s sustainability, technology and construction committee. “Now we are ready to take the project to the next level and create the best possible future-oriented facilities for patient care.”
MT Højgaard will be involved early in the process for input and development before site preparation and construction begin. Demolition of existing buildings is expected to start in 2026, with construction of the new facility kicking off in March 2027.
“The goal is to create modern facilities that support our patients and their treatment in the best possible way, now and in the future. So we have high expectations for the new building,” said Jannie Falk Bjerregaard, chief nursing officer for psychiatry. “It is very gratifying that the last piece is now in place to take the next step forward.”
The project team also includes Ramboll as technical consultant, Link Arkitektur as architect, and landscape architects SLA. Completion is scheduled for 2031 according to current plans.
