Norwegian construction giant Veidekke has secured a major 610 million SEK ($61 million) contract to develop a new residential quarter in Stockholm’s Råsunda district.
Veidekke will construct 244 rental apartments ranging from 1 to 5 rooms, including 6 group homes for disabled residents. The project for municipal housing company Signalisten also includes commercial spaces like a health clinic.
In addition to the apartment buildings, Veidekke will build an underground parking garage, two fallout shelters, waste collection system, and solar panels to partially power the energy-efficient development certified to Miljöbyggnad Silver standards.
“This is a complex project in a dense urban area, with challenges like high groundwater levels, the metro tunnel running underneath, and minimizing disruptions to existing traffic and residents,” said Veidekke project manager Linus Wåhlin.
After years of subdued housing construction, Wåhlin welcomes this large, high-quality rental project. “It feels great to start a major rental development in historic Råsunda after the sluggish market.”
