After two years of work, the quay reinforcement in the Skandiaporten project is now complete, on schedule and on budget.
Now things are booming at the port as blasting and dredging work gets underway.
The goal of the overall project is for Skandiaporten to accommodate container ships up to 430 meters long and 65 meters wide. To make it possible to deepen the area, NCC has carried out reinforcement work along the western 700 meters of the south quay at Skandia Harbor.
“This is an important milestone for the Skandiaporten project. We have completed a large and technically complex quay project. It is the result of excellent collaboration between everyone involved, and above all, it means we can now take the next step in the project as planned,” says Elin Dörrheide, project manager for the Skandiaporten quay reinforcement at the Port of Gothenburg.
Boskalis Sweden AB is carrying out the blasting and dredging work that the Port of Gothenburg is responsible for, covering the first 50 meters out into the water along the western 700 meters of the south quay. Closest to the quay, the port will be able to receive ships with a maximum draft of 17.5 meters.
There is a lot of rock to remove. Boskalis aims to remove just over 200,000 cubic meters of loose dredged material and about 30,000 cubic meters of rock by March 2027.
In parallel, the Swedish Maritime Administration is procuring the blasting and dredging work for the fairway and turning basin, as well as adjustments to the channel markings.
The Port of Gothenburg and the Swedish Maritime Administration plan to open the new fairway and quay before the end of 2028.
