The Swedish Transport Administration has restored the section of E6 highway that was damaged in a major landslide two years ago. Now they are sending all costs to the municipality.

Stenungsund municipality has received a bill for 570 million SEK from the Swedish Transport Administration.

This is the total cost for restoring the section of E6 highway that was damaged in the widely publicized landslide two years ago.

The Swedish Transport Administration has handled the reconstruction. But they believe that the municipality is financially responsible for the damages incurred, according to ST-tidningen.

In addition to the Transport Administration’s claim, four additional damage compensation claims are on the municipality’s table.

“Should all the amounts fall in favor of the claimants, it would naturally mean that we would have to take on debt. Then it will be quite difficult going forward,” says Olof Lundberg (S), leading municipal councilor for Stenungsund, to the newspaper.

If the municipality is forced to pay, certain investments may have to be postponed to the future.
