The renowned Swedish architecture firm Wingårdhs has developed Gloria – an observation tower to be placed in Gothenburg’s large recreational area Slottsskogen, commemorating the park’s 150th anniversary.
“Slottsskogen’s new observation tower is the answer to the question: Where is Gothenburg most beautiful? The answer is simple! Everywhere! We draw a circle so that the entire horizon from Vinga in the west, Hisingen in the north, Delsjön in the east to Frölunda in the south can compete in sun, rain and storm. Gothenburg in 360 degrees is the best place in the world. Climb up and enjoy!” says renowned Swedish architect Gert Wingårdh, who has developed the proposal.
Gloria will be placed at the existing viewpoint north of Hjorthagsdammen pond. The proposal consists of a circular platform supported by pillars. The shape is intended to encourage visitors to move around with views in all directions.
Now a thorough design process and building permit process awaits. The plan is for construction to start before the end of the year, with the observation tower completed in early 2025.
