Reduced climate impact is a key focus as Peab builds the new Bilkåristen care home in Helsingborg, Sweden.
Byggelement is contributing to the project’s climate goals by supplying extra-wide filigree slabs in its ECO 60 concrete.
The wider slabs mean that more floor area can be transported in each delivery. At the same time, fewer elements need to be installed on site. The slabs are manufactured at Byggelement’s factory in Ucklum. They are produced in ECO 60. That is a concrete in which 60 per cent of the cement is replaced with alternative binders to reduce its climate impact.
“The great thing about these filigree slabs is that we can combine concrete with a lower carbon footprint with a solution that also makes the construction process more efficient,” says Jonas Henriksson, project manager at Byggelement. “It means fewer transports, lifts and joints, which benefits both the climate and the work on site.”
The care home, commissioned by the municipal housing company Helsingborgshem in the Drottninghög district, will cover 8,300 square metres and include 80 apartments, with commercial and service premises on the ground floor.
In addition to the filigree slabs, Byggelement is supplying twin walls, columns, beams and balconies for the project. Deliveries of the filigree slabs are expected to continue until March 2027. The care home is scheduled for completion in autumn 2028.
