The Swedish Transport Administration has awarded NCC a SEK 680m contract for concrete repairs to 134 spans of the six-kilometre crossing, which will remain open to traffic throughout the works.

The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has commissioned NCC to continue and complete the renovation of the Öland Bridge. The company began the work in 2025. The project is one of the largest bridge maintenance schemes in Sweden. The contract is worth approximately SEK 680m.

NCC will repair concrete on 134 of the bridge’s 155 spans. During an initial phase in 2025, the company repaired 13 spans. It will now apply the experience from that work to the new contract.

The Öland Bridge is approximately six kilometres long. It forms the only fixed link between the island of Öland and the Swedish mainland. Traffic will continue to use the bridge throughout the works. NCC will work from scaffolding that hangs beneath the bridge and attaches to its beams and deck.

“The Öland Bridge is one of Sweden’s most important bridge links. The maintenance works are necessary to keep the bridge functioning for many years to come. We look forward to carrying out the project together with NCC,” said Stefan Holst, project manager at Trafikverket.

Tomas Brannemo, head of NCC Infrastructure, added: “The Öland Bridge is an iconic landmark. We are pleased to help ensure that it stands for many more years. Our initial renovation project gave us valuable experience. We will use it to carry out the work safely and efficiently.”

NCC will start work in 2027 and expects to complete the project in 2030. NCC Infrastructure will register the order in the fourth quarter of 2026.
