The main task is to develop a building concept and architectural expression well-suited to the site, as well as design the office workspaces and common areas.
Statsbygg has the option to bring Henning Larsen Architects on for the project’s execution phase. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with the other consultants as well as the future users from the research institute and fisheries directorate.
“We’re very pleased to have the experienced Henning Larsen Architects on board for this important preliminary project phase,” said Statsbygg project owner Merete Hoff.
Senior architect and project director at Henning Larsen, Lars Jarle Nore, commented: “The co-location is the first building block in developing this new urban district at Dokken. This is one of the most important projects in Norway that we look forward to further developing.”
“We are proud to get this job and look forward to contributing to this skilled consultant team. Together with Statsbygg and the city of Bergen, we will realize this fantastic project that will truly be a dynamo for the future harbor area,” added Kasper Kyndesen, Design Director Norway at Henning Larsen.
The preliminary project encompasses designing a laboratory and office building of approximately 40,000 sqm, with the laboratories and specialized areas making up about 60% of the building.
Large parts will be wet labs for research on live fish and other marine life, including infected fish specimens. The research conducted here is highly significant for Norway’s aquaculture industry and important for sustainable management of marine resources.
The preliminary project phase has been ongoing for about three years and is scheduled for completion in 2025.
