US bill proposes 65,000 visas for migrant workers

Major US construction organizations are backing a bipartisan bill that would provide 65,000 temporary work visas to address critical labor shortages in the industry.

The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and other major US construction organizations are backing a bipartisan bill to address critical skills shortages through temporary work visas, GCR reports.

The “Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act” (EWEA) would provide 65,000 temporary visas valid for three years, with the possibility of two three-year renewals for sectors facing acute labor shortages, including construction.

Introduced by Pennsylvania Republican Representative Lloyd Smucker, the bill has gained support from 10 members of Congress, including three Democrats.
