Ingrid Capacity and Locus Energy are constructing a 70 megawatt, 140 megawatt-hour battery storage system in Nivala, Finland. When operational in 2026, it will be the largest battery storage facility in the country.

The AI-powered system will analyze over 100,000 variables in real-time using an optimization platform to help balance the power grid and stabilize electricity prices.

The companies already operate 13 large battery storage sites in Sweden. The Nivala project is their second collaboration.

Jussi Jyrinsalo, Director at the Finnish transmission system operator Fingrid, welcomed the project, stating it will improve grid flexibility, reliability and enable greater integration of renewable energy sources.

The European Union estimates €584 billion in grid investments are needed by 2030 to meet rising electrification needs.
