Postal operator PostNord is investing SEK 1.1 billion in a new highly automated and sustainable terminal for parcel and pallet handling in Vaggeryd, Jönköping County. The facility, slated for production start in Q1 2028, represents PostNord’s largest infrastructure project ever.
“We see parcel volumes growing and a need to expand our terminal network in Sweden. After establishing new terminals in Växjö, Örebro, Helsingborg and most recently Norrköping, the Vaggeryd facility will enable us to remain the leading parcel and logistics provider in Sweden given the expansive e-commerce market,” said Peter Gisel Ekdahl, CEO of PostNord Sweden.
Property company Infrahubs has been contracted to construct the terminal, with work now in full swing. “Infrahubs is very proud to partner with PostNord developing this modern, sustainable parcel terminal in an excellent strategic location,” said Andreas Ekberg, Infrahubs co-owner.
The terminal will be able to process 25,000 parcels per hour, making it Sweden’s highest capacity facility. A high-tech sorting system with over 1,000 sorting directions will enable productive, rapid handling of goods flows nationwide.
The roof is prepared for solar panels with potential battery storage. Charging infrastructure will also be installed to support PostNord’s goal of a fossil-free vehicle fleet by 2030.
“This is more than just a new terminal – it’s an investment in smarter, more sustainable and future-proof logistics. We’re building not just for today’s needs, but for the future,” said Bengt Viktorsson, head project manager overseeing the construction.
The terminal will be certified BREEAM Very Good or Miljöbyggnad Silver, ensuring it meets stringent requirements for energy performance, indoor environment and sustainability.
