Finnish contractor Kreate’s Swedish unit has secured a €9 million contract with Trafikverket to take over as lead contractor for interior works on the Lovön tunnel – part of Stockholm’s major bypass project.
Kreate Sverige had initially joined the job as a subcontractor last year before the main contractor was terminated. It has now signed a 98 million kronor deal to complete the tunnel’s interior ramp sections as the lead party.
“When our subcontract ended abruptly, we’re delighted to secure this new agreement as the main contractor, allowing work to restart,” said CEO Kenneth Wahlqvist.
The company touts strong expertise tunneling for the Stockholm Bypass (Förbifart Stockholm), having worked on 8 of the 9 tunnel contracts so far.
“It’s great to showcase our skills directly for the client,” Wahlqvist added.
The €9M interior project for the northbound Lovön tunnel is slated to wrap up by year-end 2025, as part of the larger 21km bypass endeavor underway since 2015.
The Lovön deal marks a strategic move for Kreate Sverige’s goal of transitioning from subcontractor to lead contractor roles by 2027, according to Kreate Group CEO Timo Vikström. “A bigger role as a main contractor supports our revenue targets and geographic expansion in Sweden.”
