Mining operator LKAB is moving forward with plans to modernize its Gällivare operations, awarding NCC preparatory groundwork valued at €18 million.
NCC is initiating preparatory groundwork ahead of construction of the new concentration plant at LKAB’s Vitåfors facility in Gällivare. The contract value amounts to €18 million.
The companies previously entered into a collaboration agreement for construction of the new concentration plant. It will be built adjacent to the existing facility on a site of approximately 24,000 square meters.
“The initial work secures the conditions for LKAB to replace the existing concentration plant with one adapted for future operations in terms of working environment, technology, and capacity,” says Mathias Wärja, project director at NCC.
The preparatory groundwork includes topsoil removal and rock excavation. This is to create space for the new concentration plant, as well as other foundation work and site preparation required for construction to commence.
