Housing giant ships emergency shelters to Ukraine

Obos is delivering eight timber emergency housing units to Ukraine. This is being done in collaboration with Nordea Jönköping, MP Bolagen, Stiftelsen Seydlitz MP bolagen, and Rotary Sävsjö.

On September 24, transport began from Obos’ factory in Myresjö to Dnipro in eastern Ukraine.

However, this is not the first time Obos has sent housing to the war-torn country. They sent the same number to Poltava in the previous delivery.

“We can see that the housing units sent to Poltava last year have made a significant difference for the families who moved in. Evaluations show that the model works. It provides rapid shelter for people in very difficult situations,” says Joakim Henriksson, CEO of Obos Sweden.

The housing units are designed to provide quick protection and a sense of home. They measure 16.9 square meters and accommodate families of up to four people.

Assembled in hours

Additionally, they are insulated to withstand different climates and can be assembled in around four hours using simple tools. They also have integrated solar cells for lighting and charging electronics.

“These are housing units that can be extended and expanded, meaning they’re not just an emergency solution but can also become more permanent housing. The emergency shelters in Poltava enabled families from the same area to stay together, which really shows they serve an important function in daily life,” says Joakim Henriksson.

When the housing units are finally in place, the Ukrainian aid organization Angels of Salvation (AOS) is responsible for assembly and furnishing. The selection of residents is made locally, with particular focus on the most vulnerable.
