The century-old tower will undergo comprehensive renovation. Will be covered by Sweden’s most advanced scaffolding system since the 1970s.
Stockholm City Hall’s tower, over a century old, requires significant renovation work. The landmark will close to visitors for two years, from 2027 through the end of 2028, while facade and roof plating undergo restoration.
The project will also include comprehensive upgrades to fire safety systems, electrical infrastructure, and ventilation, according to Swedish Radio reports.
The 106-meter tower, dating from 1923, still retains several original components.
“After a hundred years, things inevitably show wear,” Stockholm’s Property Director Anders Kindberg told P4 Stockholm.
To facilitate the renovation work, the tower will be encased in what officials describe as the most sophisticated scaffolding system deployed in Sweden since the 1970s.
