Skanska Norway has been awarded a contract worth around NOK 5.2 billion by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to construct the first phase of the new E6 highway through Sørfold municipality, north of Fauske in Nordland county.
In addition to Skanska, bids were submitted by AF Gruppen Norge, the joint venture Implenia Norge/Bertelsen & Garpestad, and the joint venture LNS/Risa and OHLA.
“We’ve had fair and good competition with four professional players who listened to our input, adjusted their offers and remained active throughout negotiations. We’re very satisfied with that,” said Steinar Livik, project manager for the Salten project at the Road Administration.
The awarded contract covers construction of approximately 21.5 kilometers between Megården and Sommerset, including three tunnels totaling 13.8 km, 6.9 km of open road, and four bridges with a total length of 800 meters.
This is the first of three phases for the major E6 Megården-Mørsvikbotn highway project, spanning around 45 km in total once completed.
“It’s good we now have a solid contractor for the E6 Megården-Sommerset section. The entire Megården-Mørsvikbotn stretch is currently accident-prone and demanding for travelers, especially in winter when closed roads mean an 11-hour detour via Sweden. This start is therefore crucial for residents, businesses and emergency preparedness in the region,” said Transport Minister Jon-Ivar Nygård.
The new two-lane, 9-meter wide highway with a 90 km/h speed limit is scheduled to open in late 2031. Skanska will begin site preparation immediately after contract signing, with major construction starting after the summer.
