The contract includes site preparation work, demolition of Randolph Hall, and construction of a new, expanded 285,000 square-foot facility that will house multiple departments for the College of Engineering.
The new facility, Mitchell Hall, is designed to add over 70 percent more gross square footage on the same site. The construction will also involve work to preserve an existing wind tunnel that will be incorporated into Mitchell Hall.
Construction is slated to begin this spring, with the target of completing the project by spring 2028.
The significant investment highlights Virginia Tech’s commitment to providing cutting-edge engineering education facilities. Mitchell Hall will foster interdisciplinary collaboration and hands-on learning opportunities for students across the College’s programs.
For Skanska, this latest contract win builds on its track record of delivering large-scale, complex institutional projects and strengthens its construction operations in the U.S. market.
