Skellefteå Municipality has awarded Contractor Mark a four-year infrastructure contract valued at €52 million, with an option to extend for three additional years, in what represents the company’s most significant assignment to date.
Contractor Mark has won Skellefteå Municipality’s procurement for civil engineering works with extended collaboration, marking the largest contract in the Contractor Group’s history.
The agreement spans four years with an option for an additional three years. The contract value is estimated at €52 million.
“Fantastic! This secures employment for at least four years ahead,” said David Andersson, incoming CEO of Contractor Mark in Skellefteå.
The work encompasses civil engineering on the municipality’s streets, parks, green spaces, sports facilities, squares, and roads. It also covers preparations for the rerouting of the E4 highway and groundwork for the Norrbotniabanan railway project.
“We are very proud to have been awarded the procurement and received such high marks in the evaluation. This demonstrates that we have an organization with extensive expertise. One of several important factors behind the win is our sustainability work, which we have developed significantly in recent years and continuously work to improve further,” said Andersson.
Whether the contract will result in new hires remains unclear. That question can only be answered after the first quarter, once call-off volumes are known. What is certain is that the company now faces its most comprehensive assignment to date.
“It will be an incredibly exciting challenge that I’m convinced we will handle brilliantly. We have grown from 17 to 50 employees over the past five years and developed considerably as a company. We have become stronger on all fronts and achieved ISO certification, among other things. All of this will benefit us when working on the municipal contract,” said Andersson.
The announcement comes shortly after Contractor Bygg in Skellefteå was forced to issue redundancy notices following a sharp slowdown in residential construction in the city.
“We think it is extremely unfortunate that our colleagues at Contractor Bygg Skellefteå are now forced into redundancies. We sincerely hope that the housing market recovers as soon as possible. Especially now when Lyten has entered as the new owner of the battery factory, which hopefully can contribute to positive development in the construction industry. We also believe that Norrbotniabanan will give the entire construction sector a much-needed boost,” Andersson concluded.
