After a year-long collaborative planning phase, Veidekke has today signed a contract with Statsbygg to construct the new Institute for Materials Technology (P2) building at NTNU in Trondheim. The $75 million design-build project was awarded through an integrated collaboration model.
“We have now further developed the project in close collaboration with Statsbygg, NTNU and other future users of the building. This planning and coordination has been crucial to identify challenges, find good solutions and ensure the project is optimally executed for all parties. We thank you for the trust and look forward to starting construction,” said Torgeir Wiig, Regional Director at Veidekke Construction Trondheim.
The new 13,200 sq m building will span 10 floors and house over 200 NTNU employees, SINTEF Industry, external partners and more than 300 students across five year-groups. It will feature high-quality laboratories and modern infrastructure supporting the research and teaching activities of the Materials Science Institute and partners. Defined sustainability goals cover greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, site quality, circular economy and social sustainability.
Construction work commences in a few weeks, with planned completion in December 2027. The contract value is included in Veidekke’s order backlog for Q2.
