Skanska has signed a contract with Equinor as the technical service operator, continuing construction on the Northern Lights CO2 receiving terminal at Kollsnes in Øygarden near Bergen. The new $17.5 million contract involves building a new quay and mooring foundations.
The Northern Lights Joint Venture is a collaboration between Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies. Skanska is now starting construction of a new quay called Jetty 2 as well as two mooring foundations as part of Phase 2.
“We are pleased that Equinor once again shows its trust in us to build parts of such an important climate project. This is the world’s first large-scale CO2 receiving terminal, and since the start of Phase 1 in late 2020, we have gained crucial experience and expertise that we will bring into Phase 2. Here, we can continue to utilize our broad construction competence, and together with the developer, we will ensure this becomes a successful and well-executed project,” says Anders Geirsta, Executive Vice President for Skanska’s construction operations.
Work on the project will commence in August this year with scheduled completion in February 2027.
Phase 2 of the Northern Lights project is supported by the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF Europe) program.
