NRK's Oslo headquarters to become world-class media hub

With its new main office, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) aims to open up and invite the public in, according to Director-General Vibeke Fürst Haugen. New illustrations showcase the potential of NRK's construction project to create a world-class creative media center while revitalizing the Ensjø area and Oslo city.

NRK plans to move into its new Ensjø headquarters in 2029. A proposal for the zoning plan will be submitted to Oslo’s Planning and Building Services in August this year. The newly released illustrations highlight the qualities the new office could bring to the neighborhood and city.

– I find them inspiring and informative. They show that at Normannsløkka, it is possible to realize a building that fulfills NRK’s vision of a world-class creative media hub, while simultaneously elevating Ensjø and the city, said Fürst Haugen.

She emphasizes these are preliminary illustrations demonstrating the potential and range of possibilities, not a final design.

Architectural Competition Upcoming

The illustrations were created by NRK’s zoning architects at Rodeo and Nordic. In the next phase, work will begin on detailing and shaping the building.

– We want a building with strong architectural qualities that inspires. We have good dialogue with the National Association of Norwegian Architects, and over the summer, we hope to announce an architectural competition, Fürst Haugen explained.

A New Chapter for Ensjø

News, debates, studio recordings with audiences, and concerts by the Norwegian Radio Orchestra are some of the activities that will bring new vibrancy to the area. The building will see heavy use from NRK employees, partners, guests and participants in NRK’s productions.

– NRK will become a new focal point in Ensjø – a media hub tightly integrated with its surroundings and the city. I’m sure this will have many positive ripple effects for both NRK and the neighborhood, the Director-General stated.
