The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) has granted a license to Agder Energi for the construction of the Birkeland solar power plant. The facility will be one of Norway’s largest.
– This is a landmark day. So far, we have seen solar panels installed on roofs and facades in Norway, but the potential is much greater. Agder has the country’s best conditions for producing solar energy, with the most sunny days per year. We are pleased to get the green light for the Birkeland solar power plant, which will be an important project for us, says Atle Knudsen, Executive Vice President New Industry at Agder Energi.
This could become the group’s first solar power plant, and with an installed capacity of up to 11 MWp, Birkeland solar power plant will be one of Norway’s largest. Annual production will amount to 11.6 gigawatt hours (GWh), equivalent to the energy consumption of around 550 Norwegian homes.
