The Norwegian government has proposed €2.1 million for The Whale experience center in its 2026 state budget, bringing total state support for the Andøya project to €6.4 million.
In the state budget for 2026, the Norwegian government proposes a series of measures to build more housing. “We want to make construction both simpler and faster,” says Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Bjørnar Selnes Skjæran (Labour Party).
“Andøya is facing exciting development, and The Whale will be a unique and spectacular experience center that will help put Andøya and Andenes on the map as an exciting destination. The center will contribute to elevating the tourism industry in the entire region, but will also be important for the development of the local community in Andøy,” says Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Bjørnar Skjæran (Labour Party).
The Norwegian Parliament has allocated €1.7 million to The Whale in 2024 and €2.6 million in 2025. The Norwegian government now proposes an allocation of €2.1 million, bringing total state funding to €6.4 million. The grant to The Whale is an earmarked supplementary allocation to Andøy municipality, through the Andøy Fund.
