Google to build major AI hub with $15B investment

Google has unveiled a $15 billion AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking its largest investment in India. The five-year initiative (2026-2030) will deliver AI infrastructure, data center capacity, and expanded fiber-optic networks.

The hub will feature India’s first gigawatt-scale data center campus, developed with AdaniConneX and Airtel. The facility will provide high-performance services for businesses developing AI solutions using infrastructure that powers Google’s core products.

“By delivering industry-leading AI infrastructure at scale, we are enabling businesses to innovate faster,” said Thomas Kurian, Google Cloud CEO.

The project includes a new international subsea gateway with multiple cables landing in Visakhapatnam, establishing the city as an AI and connectivity hub. This provides route diversity to complement existing cable landings in Mumbai and Chennai.

Google will partner locally to deliver transmission lines, clean energy generation, and energy storage systems in Andhra Pradesh. An Access Partnership analysis estimates the hub will generate at least $15 billion in American GDP over five years.

The announcement was made at a Google event in New Delhi, attended by IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
