Nearly 200 positions are at risk as Finnish industrial giants issue redundancy warnings. White-collar workers and managers face the brunt of the cuts rather than construction workers.
YIT and Kone are both announcing layoffs in Finland. YIT aims to save 15 million euros by the end of 2027 and is initiating negotiations to reduce its workforce by 115 positions.
The cuts will affect white-collar workers and senior staff in the Residential Finland and Building segments as well as group functions. Workers in production roles at construction sites and construction workers will not be impacted.
YIT previously operated in Sweden and Norway but exited both markets during 2024.
Kone needs to eliminate 70 positions. The negotiations cover factory operations in Hyvinkää and the company’s research and product development functions, according to YLE.
The factory manufactures specialized elevator cars among other products and employs 200 workers. The research and product development operations have around 600 employees.
