Copenhagen’s Enghave Brygge development has broken ground. Contractor 5E Byg will build 700 homes across three canal-separated islands using timber as the primary structural material.
Danish contractor 5E Byg has won the contract to build 700 homes at Enghave Brygge, a new waterfront development in Copenhagen. The project is being developed by AP Ejendomme and covers around 60,000 square metres of residential construction. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Monday.
The development will be built across three residential islands separated by canals and connected by a public harbour promenade. The site is located close to Vesterbro with easy access to metro and public transport.
Timber will be the primary building material, including in the load-bearing structures, with the aim of reducing the project’s carbon footprint. The project targets an LCA value of 6.1 and is designed to achieve DGNB Gold 2025 certification, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and compliance with EU taxonomy requirements.
The development will primarily consist of owner-occupied homes, with a smaller number of rental units.
5E Byg has previously delivered several sustainable housing projects, including Ripple Residence in Nordhavn, due for completion in 2026.
