The client is Skellefteå Municipality and the contract sum amounts to SEK 390 million.

The Arctic Centre of Energy is set to become a world-leading competence center working to accelerate the electrification of society. The competence center will be built on the university campus area in Skellefteå.

The project will be certified according to the Miljöbyggnad Gold 4.0 and NollCO2 standards.

“As the client, we have very high sustainability ambitions, and the goal in this project is to take the next step in sustainable and circular construction,” says Kenneth Lindén, project manager at Skellefteå Municipality.

The building will have a frame made of cross-laminated timber (KL-trä), and solar panels and wind turbines will be placed on the roof, with their energy stored in a dedicated battery storage system.

Materials such as windows, interior doors, wash basins, light fittings, stair railings, and limestone from existing floors will be reused from the simultaneously renovated Skellefteå Hospital to create new terrazzo floors.

“I’m proud that we get to contribute our expertise in sustainable construction and reuse to now start the ACE Campus, which will be an important part of the research into the crucial electrification of society,” says Susanne Hallberg, Regional Manager at Peab.

The project is a turnkey contract with construction start in June and scheduled for completion in May 2027.
