“This is a big day. We are now moving from design to execution. Thanks to the diligent efforts of incredibly many skilled people, we will gradually see the new, magnificent buildings rise,” said Health Minister Jan Christian Vestre.
The groundbreaking was attended by numerous representatives from Oslo University Hospital and the construction project for the New National Hospital. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2031 with large, new, and future-oriented buildings. Regional and national functions are gathered, while also providing local hospital services to approximately 200,000 residents.
Multiconsult Norge, together with LINK arkitektur, Fabel Arkitekter and Bølgeblikk Arkitekter, have worked on the preliminary project for the New National Hospital since the fall of 2020 through the “Design Group New National Hospital”
“This is a milestone in a long and complex design process with several challenges. Our well-composed and professionally strong design team still manages to deliver high quality within the project’s framework,” said Arnstein Sande, leader of Team Hospital, LINK Arkitektur.
“These will be new and modern hospital buildings, and in total the National Hospital will have 150,000 m2 of new construction after the expansion. The planning has been carried out in several stages, and the entire area will undergo a significant transformation. Our architects and consultants have worked together to develop a good project,” said Dag Bøhler, project director at Oslo University Hospital, at the event.
